W. L. GORE & ASSOCIATES (GORE) conducted a GORETM Amplified Geochemical Imaging Survey over a producing Cretaceous field in south central Alberta, Canada. The survey was located over a north-south trending Upper Mannville channel complex which contains point bar sands that have trapped medium gravity oil and gas at a depth of approximately 1,200 meters. The survey area was located approximately 150 kilometers northeast of Calgary.
The survey provides detailed coverage over the northern two pools. The samples were taken in a regular grid pattern with samples spaced approximately 300 meters apart. In addition to survey grid samples, three wells were chosen forthe purpose of acquiring surface geochemical signatures of microseepage emanation over an oil reservoir, a gas reservoir and dry hole location. These three model sets form the foundation of the geochemical modeling process and differentiate hydrocarbon surface emanation from background-like surface emanation.
Survey Design
- 145 grid samples installed over 4 square miles (16 ha spacing)
- 15 model samples installed at 08-08 Oil Well
- 15 model samples installed at 14-16 Suspended Gas/Oil Well
- 15 model samples installed at 10-06 Dry Well
- Gas & oil pool were 33 to 47% depleted
